CRC 1624 participates in "Wir wollen's wissen"

Two of our Early Career Researchers (ECRs) Aldo Witte and Karim Ritter von Merkl took part in the University of Hamburg outreach programme “Wir wollen’s wissen”.

In this initiative, staff members visit high schools to present mathematical research questions to students. Aldo explained how the Klein bottle can be used to make walks more efficient, and how the Möbius strip can be used in “romance”. Karim explored with the class how they can efficiently unknot different families of knots.

These school visits were organised in the context of a seminar for high school teacher MEd students, where students and postdocs worked in teams on a mathematical topic and on how best to present it to a high school class.
