Equal opportunity and diversity
In our CRC, we view diversity as a strength and aim to open equal opportunities for all current and prospective members of the scientific community. At present, unfortunately, there is still a significant lack of diversity in mathematics and physics, especially concerning gender equality.
We understand diversity as a multi-faceted concept that includes aspects such as gender, sexual orientation, nationality, age, social background, as well as differences that are shaped by the many social, mental and physical challenges that individuals face in their lives, may they be temporary or permanent.
Measures implemented by our CRC:
• Exchange and mentoring exchange of female CRC affiliates,
• Additional visits of female colleagues in the context of our exchange and mentoring
exchange program.
• Additional guest professorships for visible female collegues not covered by our Mercator
fellowship program.
• Support of CRC events having important equal opportunity components,
• Flexible supplementary childcare for CRC affiliates outside of usual working hours, on
business trips, or for visitors of the CRC. This can include back-up services for the care
of children by external service providers if regular childcare services are not available at
short notice (for example, during evening seminars, etc.)
• Soft-skills training, mentoring programs and advanced training for female PIs/Postdocs.
• Flexible working conditions for scientists with young children and the provision of ad-
ditional PC hardware and software for home office work.
