Integrated research training group
One of the principal aims of this CRC is to attract excellent young researchers and to give
them optimal conditions to advance in their careers. The IRTG is a key component of the
CRC to achieve this goal. It provides training and advice to PhD students and postdocs
involved in the CRC, it provides them with funds and support for their own activities, and
it increases their visibility. The IRTG is integrated in the Research School of the Cluster of
Excellence “Quantum Universe” (QURS) and contributes new activities with a focus
on the needs of PhD students and postdocs in the research areas covered by the CRC, rooted in
Mathematics and Mathematical Physics. The IRTG events include the ZMP seminar, specialised
lecture courses, the IRTG seminar and retreats organised by the PhD students/postdocs, and, as
its internationally most visible event, a yearly summer school rotating among the three research
areas of the CRC. The lecture courses and the ZMP seminar in particular contribute to the
bilingual education of the PhD students and postdocs in presenting topics from the perspectives
of mathematics and theoretical physics.
