Bin Gui is widely recognised for his groundbreaking contributions to the theory of vertex operator algebras, a mathematical framework underlying two-dimensional conformal field theory.
He is currently an assistant professor at the Yau Mathematical Sciences Center at Tsinghua University. With a background in analysis and operator algebras, his research addresses fundamental open problems in the field, including his recent proof of the convergence of higher-genus conformal blocks, which translates into the well-definedness of sums over intermediate states in conformal field theory. His work connects to several research areas within the CRC, such as the study of conformal blocks, modular functors, topological field theory, and tensor categories.
He will visit the CRC from June 29th to July 17th, during which he will give a series of lectures on vertex operator algebras as well as a talk in the ZMP Colloquium on July 2nd.
